It is a name in the sediment classification. It is often represented by the symbol G. Refers to rocks or mineral debris that have an average particle size greater than 1 mm. According to the average particle size, the gravel can be subdivided into three kinds: boulders, coarse gravel and fine gravel: the average particle size of 1-10 mm, called fine gravel; 10-100 mm, called coarse gravel; greater than 100 mm , called boulders. Gravel is cemented into diagenesis and is called conglomerate or breccia.
Gravels are formed by the weathering of rocks exposed on the surface; they are often deposited in the foothills and piedmont areas; or after the rocks are eroded by water erosion, they are generated after being washed by rivers; after the gravel cements, conglomerates or breccia are formed.
Gravel can be used for paving. The total length of gravel roads in the world today exceeds the total of cement roads and asphalt  roads. Gravel is also an important material for making concrete.
